Guildford Technical College is where Paul Merrett received his formal cookery training after his mother spotted his love of eating, if not food. Accepted as an apprentice chef at The Ritz Hotel in Piccadilly, London, Paul decided to travel far and wide on a search for a culinary mentor. He ended up 500 yards down Piccadilly with Peter Kromberg at the Michelin starred Le Soufflé restaurant.
Paul Merrett earned his Michelin stars whilst at L’Interlude restaurant, after a short spell in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and at The Greenhouse Restaurant.
Near Richmond Park, West London, Paul runs and owns The Victoria Public House, Dining Room and Hotel, which recently won a Great Pub Awards for the ‘Best London Gastro Pub 2011’.
Paul Merrett’s TV appearances include, Channel 4’s ‘Light Lunch’, ITV’s ‘Sunday Feast’, BBC2’s ‘The Best’, BBC1’s ‘Ever Wondered About Food’ and ‘Saturday Kitchen’, ‘Family Supercooks’ and ‘Market Kitchen’ on the Good Food Channel as well as representing ‘Economy Gastronomy’ on BBC2.
Passionate about Food Ethics – Paul Merrett is a spokesman for the RSPCA’S Freedom Food campaign and Compassion in World Farming. He is also regularly hosts cookery mornings in local schools with the School Food Matters charity.
