Finding Her Faith
Born and raised in Sheffield, Kate Bottley was not raised in a church-going family but instead found her passion for church ignited by her interest in the local vicar’s son. This led to her attending church more often and building up an interest in the Church of England. She went on to study secondary religious education with Qualified Teacher Status at Leeds Trinity University before deciding to train as a religious education teacher. In 1997, Kate Bottley started working at Ecclesfield secondary school where she remained for three years before becoming Head of Religious Education at Yewlands Technology College in Grenoside. It was after this that she turned her sights to becoming ordained, first becoming a vicar’s personal assistant before studying at St John’s College. She was ordained as a deacon in 2008 then as a priest the following year.
