Early Promise
Growing up in East Sussex, Sophie Morgan went to school in South Croydon before moving to Scotland where she studied at Gordonstoun School. Initially aspiring to study law at the University of Manchester, Sophie Morgan’s life took a sudden and unexpected detour when she had a road accident when she was 18 years old. Following the crash, she was left paralysed from the waist down and instead opted to study art closer to home at City College Brighton & Hove. Sophie Morgan first entered the spotlight when she appeared on screen taking part in BBC Two’s Beyond Boundaries. The show followed 11 disabled people on an expedition 220 miles across Nicaragua. Unfortunately, after contracting amoebic dysentery, she was hospitalised and forced to complete the expedition. However, this incredible experience was only the start of Sophie Morgan’s television career.
Sophie Morgan’s Television Career
Four years later Sophie Morgan revisited the screen again as a contestant on the BBC Three show, Britain’s Missing Top Model where eight women with disabilities sought to prove they had it what it takes to become a model. She finished as runner up and has since worked on a model on various projects including Stella McCartney’s Adidas Campaign in 2012. From here, Sophie Morgan’s television career has only flourished, she has gone on to present numerous shows including the documentary License to Kill, which looked at road accidents caused by young drivers. The show had a big impact and led to Sophie Morgan teaming up with Drive iQ and BBC Learning on a tour around schools that seeks to educate young drivers on safety. She also travelled to Ghana in 2015, presenting ‘The World’s Worst Place to Be Disabled’ where she visited people with disabilities in the developing world and encountered the hardships and experiences they face. As well as her documentary work, Sophie Morgan presented coverage of the 2012 Summer Paralympics and in more recent years she became a presenter on the enlightening show Tricks of the Restaurant Trade.
