Early Promise
Growing up in a village in Hertfordshire, Chris Davids and Liam Ivory unknowingly shared the same unearthed passions for music that would come to see them form Maribou State. They first started to discover their talents playing in various bands while at school, but it was when they remixed a Hadouken song at age 16 that they got a glimpse of their future in the music industry. The Hadouken remix was accepted, and they received their first official cheque for their music. Working on material and finding their sound, the pair first debuted as Maribou State in 2011 when they released an EP through FatCat records titled ‘Habitat’.

Maribou State’s Music Career
As the duo started to gain recognition from the industry, they created a variety of music that found traction. Maribou State went on to release several singles and EP’s through Southern Fried Records a label founded and owned by Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim. This included a number of remixes for artists such as Lana Del Rey, Kelis, Ultraista, Kastle and Fatboy Slim himself as well as many others. They received a wealth of support from popular British DJs which included the likes of Pete Tony, Zane Lowe and Gilles Peterson. They went on to release another EP in 2013 titled ‘Truths’. As they began work on material for their first full-length album, Maribou State also did some extensive touring and lit up the stage at multiple festivals. The album, ‘Portraits’ was released in 2015 which they followed up with a second album, ‘Kingdoms of Colour’ in 2018 which was named BBC 6 Music’s ‘Album of the Day’. The 2018 record found them a no. 25 spot on the UK Album Charts and had a wave of support from both DJ’s and critics alike. The following year Maribou State also embarked on a sold-out tour around the UK and Europe.

Maribou State’s Awards and Achievements
As Maribou State continue their whirlwind rise to fame that has earned them a dedicated fan base and support from various top artists they have received a number of accolades to their name. In 2018, Mixmag named the duo as ‘Artists of the Year’ while AllMusic also awarded them Favourite Electronic Album of the Year for their record ‘Kingdoms in Colour’.
