Facts and History of Soul & Disco Music
Soul music first emerged as a result of the black experience in America in the late 1950’s, where upbeat and joyful gospel songs started to evolve into the soul music we know today. Not long after, in the 1970’s, disco music hit the dancefloors. The genre was extremely popular at the time due to films such as ‘Saturday Night Fever’. Although the genre largely fell out of favour in the early 1980’s it has continued through its influences on dance music, and occasional resurgences at club nights.
